The catastrophic injuries we have encountered include:

  • Amputations

Type of Serious Injuries

Brain/Head Injuries

Normally occurring as a result of some kind of physical trauma to the head. The damage can often be not only physical but cognitive, emotional and can affect social abilities.

Spinal cord injuries

Injuries to your back and spine can have far reaching consequences such as loss of movement or sensation. This can be caused by bruising, loss of blood to the spinal cord, dislocation hyperflexion or hyperextension of the cord. Men are more likely to suffer a spinal cord injury than women – 80% of spinal cord injury patients are men.

Amputations

Losing a limb can be a very traumatic experience, not only learning to cope physically, but also the psychological trauma of depending on others for day to day tasks can be very difficult to deal with. We take all of this in to account, when deciding on whether to make a claim for you.

Paralysis

Serious injuries often end up in some sort of paralysis. This is a loss of muscle function in a certain area. There are many types of paralysis;

Stroke – caused by a cut off blood to the brain. A stroke can have many symptoms including numbness down one side of the body, slurred speech and loss of sight

Hemiplegia – a severe weakness of the limbs on one side of the body. This can be caused either by a stroke or by spinal cord injuries.

Paraplegia – an impairment in motor or sensory function of the lower half of the body, usually caused by spinal injuries or a congenital condition such as spina bifida.

Quadriplegia or Tetraplegia – partial or total loss of use off all four limbs. This is usually caused by some sort of trauma, disease such as multiple sclerosis or by a congenital disorder such as muscular dystrophy.

Burns - ranging from reasonably superficial first degree burns to far more serious fourth degree burns that can lead to amputation, significant functional impairment and in some cases death.
